Physician Heal Thyself: Rupert Murdoch on American Politics

By Ed Timperlake, Editor SLD Forum

Rupert Murdoch just directly involved himself in the Presidential Campaign by releasing the following:

“Met Romney last week. Tough O Chicago pros will be hard to beat unless he drops old friends from team and hires some real pros. Doubtful. 1 Jul 12”

Free advice from a billionaire media mogul is interesting, and newsworthy.

So perhaps Mr. Murdoch should follow the Bible’s wisdom “Physician Heal they-self” (Luke4: 23).

His international media team initially, bungled their first shot against “Old Chicago pros”, and subsequently was  magnificent, but have now have gone dark in allowing a huge issue to retreat back into the shadows thus avoiding the disinfectant of sunlight.

The issue still festering is Nadhmi Auchi, who is an Iraqi by birth and now one of the wealthiest men in jolly old UK, and his financial relationship to  “Tough O Chicago pros.”

Auchi by all accounts is smart and slick was a quick study in “the Chicago Way” he rewards his friends, especially Tony Rezko and tries to punish his enemies by dragging them into English Libel Court.

Nadhmi Auchi, a convicted felon in France for his part in a huge bribery scandal is the deep pocket money source for a fellow convicted felon Anthony “Tony” Rezko.

From the World Bank:

“Nadhmi Auchi, 65, reputedly Britain’s seventh-richest man, is one of 37 company administrators and business partners accused of being involved in France’s biggest postwar financial scandal in which the oil firm, now TotalFinaElf, allegedly paid out huge sums in bribes and backhanders to expand its empire.

Auchi paid millions of pounds in kickbacks to French oil executives. Auchi is charged on the warrant with three charges of conspiracy to defraud involving the takeover of Ertoil by General Mediterranean Holdings (GMH) [Auchi’s arms company] and its subsequent sale to Elf between December 1990 and August 1994.

While in Britain Auchi developed some very powerful friends. Former Conservative Chancellor Lord Lamont was chosen to serve on the board of his Luxembourg banking company Cipaf and former Liberal Party leader Lord David Steel agreed to take up a directorship in Auchi’s arms company General Mediterranean Holdings….”

Nadhmi Auchi involved himself in Iraq in the initial attempts in awarding contracts to the build out of cell phone networks after Saddam was conquered. I investigated that issue when I was sent to Iraq to inventory the conventional contraband munitions and weapons smuggled in via the “oil-for-food” scandal.

As the DOD investigator for the case I was surprised to read in The London Times, out of nowhere and with no foundation, state that the DOD report was “discredited.”  It was an assertion that Auchi’s lawyers used until it was pointed out that the investigative report was official and being used by FBI and also validated by a Federal Judge.

The London Times Editor flew to DC to personally apologize over lunch.

After, France, UK and Iraq, Auchi’s pattern and practice of associating money and politicians extended to Rezko, Ron Blagojevich and ultimately Barack Obama. The London Times was then magnificent in unraveling what Candidate Obama called his “bonehead” stunt to buy a Chicago mansion with Rezko’s help.

It is now time for the Murdoch media empire to find out more about President Obama, Nadhmi Auchi and all of the Chicago financial and other connections, especially what happened after Nadhmi Auchi was put on a “watchlist” and denied entry back into the U.S. in the summer of 2004.

What connection did Barack Obama have in trying to overturn that decision?

All American’s have a right to know how deep the “Chicago way” of doing business extends and who profited by off-shore dirty money and most importantly: what was then expected in exchange?

So rather than tweeting your personal views Mr. Murdoch, how about some real investigative journalism?
