Thanks to the continued support of the government and strong leadership under Xie, China’s Iron Lady, Baosteel has, in fact, developed into one of the world’s most successful steel companies.  In 1996, the Chinese government designated Baosteel as one of the country’s National Champions – one of a handful of companies that the Chinese government intended to build into globally competitive multinationals by the year 2010.
