Will Benghazi Wake Us Up?

By Robert Newton

I certainly hope we look more closely at the US consulate/annex attack in Libya and consider calling the event what it was, an attack on our personnel and facilities.

There is a war going on.

We just won’t admit it, nor are we willing to define the enemy.

Instead our foreign policy is simply running away by setting an artificial date of withdrawal from Afghanistan.

We declare a date; and all is solved.

It is a clear statement of the arrogance of Inside the Beltway: We determine the key dates in human history by simply declaring them and moving on.

It is preposterous to define the event like the White House did, “an angry mob incited by a freak movie video.”

And frankly on the other side of the aisle, can we really blame everything on Al-Qaida?

Does Al-Qaida represent all the elements of our real enemy that include the Salafists.

The reality is staring us right in the face.

Jihad stirring Islamists attacked us…. again.

The attack occurred on September 11th; does that seem a mere coincidence?

When the attack started, our leaders denied what was going on and went to sleep.

Being asleep on September 11th is a perfect metaphor for what is going on in the Administration.

For those of you who have been down range, when your buds less than a mile away call for help, you get it together and do what Tyrone Woods did, lead!

I’ll bet the comms and video from the scene reflect incredible challenges and skilled courageous heroes making the best of a very bad situation.. albeit without the help that could and should have been there.

This is just what we can expect from politically correct definitions of reality into which the world is fit rather than dealt with.

Incompetent and criminal come to mind.

Bush may not have been perfect, but he was rightly proud to have the enemy in retreat.

How many times did they attack us after 9-11/2001?

Now, look what has happened in just under 4 years.

And even more amazing is the attempt to deny that it was a terrorist attack at all.

Classic terrorism is intended to create fear and deliberately target civilian/non-combatants.

Let’s not succumb to political correctness and redefine terrorism away from what it does and what it is.

This was a clear attack on a US ambassador, people, and facilities.

So what we have is a non-state loosely linked group with a common jihadist philosophy attacking our people, interests, and territory.  And they are doing so with a clear objective of getting us to run away (leave the region) so they can establish a new caliphate.

It reminds one of 1936, and when the West simply acquiesced in the rise of Hitler.  After all he was only a German conservative wasn’t he?

Denying the reality of history in the 1930s did not determine reality or the need to deal with a worse one a decade later.

So what will happen when this every strengthening and emboldened group can homogenize around a nuclear Iran?

Will we have another movie before then to justify it?

Will we wake up then?

God Bless our fallen warriors of freedom!

And honor with truth and forward leaning action, not politically correct delusions.
